My name is Keagan McNew, I am an aspiring data scientist and GIS professional. I received a Master of Applied Geography in GIS and a Bachelors of Science in Physical Geography at Texas State University. Some of my hobbies include hiking, gardening, traveling, and weightlifting. I am an avid traveler; I love visiting national parks around the United States! I created this site in order to have a platform to display projects, posts, and applications I create in the future. This site is my journey into GIS, geography and data science. I want this to serve as a resource for myself and anyone else who may run into similar problems.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Geographic Information Systems Technician                                                  Feb 2020 – May 2021

Apex Systems – Onsite at Apple, Austin, Texas

-          Responsible for content analysis, validation, cleansing, collection and reporting of datasets.

-          Process large GIS datasets using python, PostgreSQL, and PostGIS.

-          Research and develop solutions for R&D projects and automate workflows.

Graduate Research Assistant                                                                             Aug 2017 – Aug 2019

Assisted in the research of Jewish survivors found in the Budapest ghetto and producing GIS layers detailing their locations. Various python packages were used to normalize the addresses and process the data to determine their locations. The GIS layers and associated data were normalized, and a spatial database was created to house the data.

Undergraduate Research                                                                                 Jan 2017 – May 2017

Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas

Assisted in the research and creation of land cover classification layers of counties found in southeast Texas. Utilized supervised machine learning concepts remote sensing technologies to create several  GIS layers.
